Book Review - Waiting for Daisy |

Waiting for Daisy: a Tale of Two Continents, Three Religions, Five Infertility Doctors, an Oscar, an Atomic Bomb, A Romantic Night, and One Woman's Quest to Become a Mother, is a beautiful book by Peggy Orenstein, a journalist and writer who has written about her personal experiences with infertility. It's a book that I think everyone going through infertility or working in the field of infertility, should read. When I read it, I laughed and I cried. I have worked in infertility for 24 years, and I thought I understood how couples felt. I realize now that I didn't quite “get it.” I realize now that I still have a lot to learn about people who have to navigate their way through the system.

Many thanks to Dr. Tim Tanaka, PhD (in Medical Science) and Doctor of Acupuncture, and The Pacific Wellness Institute for providing the following article about acupuncture and infertility.* If you are considering alternative therapies, please talk to your LifeQuest physician in advance to ensure they will not interfere with your fertility treatment.

Finding the Best Sperm for IUI, IVF/ICSI
Sperm DNA is packaged by nature in a unique manner compared to that of other cells in the body. Sperm DNA is arranged in very tight organized loops so that it can be carried safely to its final destination of the fallopian tube for fertilization of the egg.

Oocyte Freezing (Cryopreservation) |

Freezing oocytes is an ongoing project at LifeQuest. Since the first live birth of a baby from our method in 2004, we are continuing with this study on a case-by-case basis. Our method is a modification of the ‘slow freezing’ method used by Italian researchers in 2002 (Fabri et al). This process will eventually allow fertility preservation, and the possibility of banking donated oocytes in the same way sperm banks are available to patients.
